The School of Theatre and Film offers a wide variety of Film Studies and Digital Film Production courses. The film major offers an innovative and collaborative learning environment. We offer introductory and advanced Film Studies courses in which students create their own research projects, working from historical materials, channel their creativity within the study of film theory, and engage with genre study, international, and US film topics.
Students interested in production will find a full curriculum of more than a dozen courses that will ready them to work in the professional film and media production industries, while developing their own unique voices as filmmakers. The program is committed to developing deep ties with Oregon’s production markets, providing opportunities for students to connect with industry professionals and participate in internships with top productions. Graduates of Film at Portland State have worked on such shows as Portlandia, Leverage, and Grimm; on films like Paranoid Park, Gone, The Green Room, and the Twilight series; and for companies like the animation studio Laika (Coraline, Paranorman) and Bunim-Murray Productions (The Real World, Road Rules).
